Buddha Jayanti , also known as Buddha Purnima, is one of the most sacred festivals observed in the Vaisakha month of the Hindu calendar. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, who was born in Lumbini (modern-day Nepal) in 623 B.C. His parents named him Siddharth, the only son of King Shuddhodhan of Kapilavastu. According to prophecy, Siddharth was destined to become either a great emperor or a world-renowned ascetic.
